Brushfires is an adventure suitable for any group of Travellers - many FFW adventures up to this point have been from the point of view of specialised groups such as Zhodani agents or Imperial diplomats. Brushfires can really be played by your average 'shady trader' Travellers!

The adventure takes place along the periphery of the Riverland theatre, mostly in the Aramis subsector. The area the Travellers will be operating in is separated from the major fighting going on around Efate by a gap of sparse systems, a backwater, unimportant economically and not on the way to anywhere. As a result, it is seeing the outbreak of brushfire wars rather than major conflicts.
It is, to a great extent, a story driven by the power of information. History is made by the decisions of people, but those decisions are driven by what they believe and the information they have at the time. The key plot element – a stash of rare books belonging to the Duke of Rhylanor – might seem insignificant in the middle of an interstellar war but societies are shaped by culturally significant places and artefacts.

During Brushfires, the Travellers will be fighting off Vargr raiders, negotiating with Vargr raiders, explore a wrecked liner above a gas giant, get to a planet blockaded by the Zhodani, meet resistance fighters and Llellewyloly, tread lightly in the court of a corsair matriarch, and watch the fall of a world.
Brushfires is a perfect excursion to either continue the larger framework of the Fifth Frontier War or simply to remind your independent Travellers that there is very much a war still going on!

Matthew, back in the 80s my group of PCs went through a campaign with a whole succession of brushfire skirmishes, set during the 5FW. I outlined one in my response to the Envoy post, if you’re interested. This approach to games can be very fruitful, and at small scale doesn’t conflict with established Traveller canon. Best of play to you and your game table! MB
