Ymir’s Blood is a mythical substance found in the Shield Maidens TTRPG. It comes from the primordial being Ymir, who existed in the time that came before the realms and the gods. Pulled from the gaps of proto-universal space, Ymir is an ageless being, made of something not unlike the very fabric of existence. He realised the problems the universe held and took it upon himself to solve them, carving a child for himself from the ice of the eternal sea. It was he who forced the universal tree, Yggdrasil, to grow; the child he placed within the shelter of its bough.
Ymir continued to create more gods, shaping them from the first substances that filled the universe, determined to find a way to force progression. He was not an omniscient being, but his ideas forced him to push himself and his kin further than they had been forced to go before. This determination and seemingly boundless intelligence continued to rive him as he watched the Aesir play and learn, but never age.
It was not until his first son, Odin, came to him, that Ymir recognised the signs. He himself had usurped the rule of the primordials who came before, Aurgelmir and Auðumbla, with his desire for creation, and so would he be usurped. Odin proclaimed his solution to the problem, that to have a beginning all things must have an end. Ymir looked onto his son with something akin to pride, witnessing the spark in his eye and seeing so much more; the very hopes he had laid bare to his child for the future of the universe. And so, Ymir was slain by his son, his blood seeping into the universe.
In the years to come, this divine substance would be repurposed as fuel, the lifestuff of worlds corrupted to become their destruction. Now, Ymir’s Blood is being extracted throughout the universe, with Fenrir and Pure drilling operations spreading throughout the Nine Realms. The only untouched places remaining are the homeworlds of the gods. For now.
