This city covers nearly a third of the landmass of Midgard. Nearly 98% of humanity lives within its borders, kept safe from the wilderness outside by a giant, sealed dome that covers the entire city. All is not well within the realm of humanity, and the dome that was once hailed as a way to keep the great beasts from the doors of its residents is now just as much a way to keep them contained.
Within Shield Maidens, Midgard City acts as the home base for humanity, including the Fenrir Empire, the Resistance and the Shield Maidens themselves. Split into 32 zones by gargantuan walls, the populace has never been more divided. The rich lice in exorbitant luxury, whereas the poor eke out a living through whatever means necessary, limited by both heat, light and the patrols of the Empire.
The Fenrir Empire has been the controlling power of the city since the distinct tribes of humanity moved within its borders, working together to found a place that would protect them all against the beasts that rampaged in the snow. In the time since, they have consolidated power over humanity throughout every means available. Not only are they in control of heat and power, their patrols are a constant on the city’s streets, they have sole authority over the laws of the city and every inhabitant within, and the claws of their domination have sunk into the very psyche of humanity.
Midgard City is the base of many Shield Maidens campaigns, and most citizens within its walls have lost their belief in the gods. This was not an accident, nor simply a test of time, but a deliberately manufactured event called the Godblind.
